    I am a research scientist at the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD), evolving around magmas, lavas and volcanoes, linking petrology, chemistry, rheology, eruption dynamics, morphological characteristics of volcanic landforms, and their impacts on society. My early research was focused on petrographic description of Archean rocks, but it quickly took a turn toward magma and lava rheology and assessing volcanic hazards. I am now working on comprehensive studies of the thermal and physical properties controlling lava flow emplacement dynamics on Earth and other planets. The aim of my current research is to provide near real time responses during volcanic crises in terms of modeling lava flow propagation. Through my research activities, I have developed skills in experimental volcanology, igneous petrology, field geology, modeling, and geographic information systems (GIS). In particular I carried out high temperature laboratory experiments to measure lava viscosity and study the influence of viscosity on final lava flow dimensions. I conducted many fieldwork campaigns in Mexico to map volcanic field and collect data on historical eruptions and evaluate the hazards. More recently I have worked on active lava flow field on Piton de la Fournaise La Réunion, developing instrument to perform in situ measurements and protocols for near real time response to volcanic crises, including remote sensing-, modeling- and field-based data. I worked in four different countries; seven different institutes and have established long term international collaborations in particular with Mexico, Ecuador, Germany and UK.
